Green has lived with scoliosis for 15 years. A naturally active person who juggles horse riding and tennis, and wanted to add running, she always knew her condition could flare up whenever she tried something new. She wanted a plan that would let her say yes to all of it, so she turned to physiotherapy at UFIT Singapore.
Scoliosis Causing Daily Pain
Green was diagnosed with moderate scoliosis and was dealing with significant neck and back pain. It affected simple things, like waking up in the morning and feeling okay. Her neck and shoulder would tense up and limit her rotation, adding discomfort, frustration and stress to everything she did.
Dry Needling and Targeted Exercise
Her treatment with Senior Physiotherapist combined dry needling with exercises to get the muscles around her shoulder blade, neck, back, core and hips working better together, all areas affected by her scoliosis. Exercises were progressed from low-level activation to larger, more complex movements that reflected her goals.
Her first dry needling session was a "eureka moment." From then on, even when her neck and shoulder acted up, she knew her next session would resolve or ease the symptoms.
Saying Yes to More
That confidence changed what Green was willing to try:
- First 10k: completed in December.
- Horse riding: back in the saddle 2 to 3 times a week.
- Show jumping: high-intensity training without constantly worrying about injury or a flare-up.
- Volcano trekking: Green completed a Volcano hike in Guatemala.
Pain Doesn't Mean Stop
Green's Physio says what stands out most is Green's mindset. With chronic conditions, you may never be 100% fixed, and there may still be the occasional unpleasant episode. But Green now understands that pain doesn't mean she should stop. It means using the tools she has to manage it, so it doesn't hold her back from what she loves.
Personalised, Not Prescriptive
Green didn't need a fixed programme for her symptoms. She needed personalisation and someone to track her progress live and adapt as things changed. "That's what I found here at UFIT," she says, "and that's why I've been coming for more than a year."
