What Are Custom Foot Orthotics in Singapore?

Orthotics are custom-prescribed shoe insoles, designed to manage a variety of foot and ankle conditions in Singapore. For centuries, orthotics have been a cornerstone in the treatment of foot pain, enhancing comfort and performance.

The primary goal of orthotic therapy is to optimise load management and effectively reduce pain, which in turn improves daily function and quality of life.

Why do we use orthotics?

Foot orthotics are specially designed to redistribute weight and take pressure off painful spots in your feet. Whether you need a long-term solution for ongoing comfort or a short-term aid to help you recover during rehabilitation, orthotics are a versatile tool that can adapt to your needs and help you step more comfortably.

Who can benefit from orthotics?

Orthotics effectively manage a wide range of foot and ankle conditions in both adults and children, including high arches, flat feet, bunions, ball of foot pain, bursitis, diabetes-related issues, hammer toes, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, and arthritis.

Types of orthotics

It is quite common for individuals to have custom insoles designed for different types of footwear, such as sports shoes and formal dress shoes. This personalized approach ensures that each pair of shoes provides the optimal support and comfort needed for specific activities and occasions, catering to the unique demands of each situation.

Benefits of Custom Orthotics

Relieve Foot Pain

Custom orthotics in Singapore provide targeted support and cushioning, effectively managing many foot and ankle conditions like:

  • Heel pain & Plantar Fasciitis
  • Flat Feet or High Arches
  • Bunions, Hammertoes, Corns, Calluses
  • Ball of Foot Pain & Bursitis
  • Arthritis Pain
  • Diabetes-related Foot Issues

Injury Prevention

Misalignment or lack of support in the feet may place added stress on the lower limbs and associated structures.

UFIT custom orthotics are designed to promote natural alignment and stability, which can help reduce strain on joints and soft tissues.

Custom Fit

Unlike generic inserts, UFIT orthotics are custom-made using dynamic pressure data of your foot captured from our treadmill gait analysis, which syncs directly with our insole-printer.
This enables us to create orthotic insoles that:

  • Perfectly match the contours of your feet, providing targeted support and unparalleled comfort.
  • Target your specific condition for personalised relief.
  • Fit seamlessly into your footwear.

Frequently Asked Questions about Orthotics Insole

When do I need orthotic insoles?

You might need orthotic insoles if you are experiencing persistent foot, ankle, knee, hip, or lower back pain that could be related to foot mechanics. They are also beneficial for managing specific conditions like flat feet or high arches, bunions, and plantar fasciitis in Singapore.

How long does it take to get custom orthotics made?

Thanks to our in-house printing facility in Singapore, UFIT can provide custom orthotics within two to five working days after your initial assessment and consultation. This ensures minimal delay in starting your treatment.

Do I need a prescription or referral for custom orthotics?

In Singapore, a prescription or referral is generally not required to obtain custom orthotics. You can book an appointment directly for an assessment. However, if you have a referral from another healthcare professional, please bring it along.

Can orthotics help with foot pain?

Yes, custom orthotics are highly effective in relieving many types of foot pain. They work by correcting biomechanical imbalances, providing cushioning, and redistributing pressure, which reduces stress on painful areas like the heel, arch, or ball of the foot.

What materials are custom insoles made from?

Our insoles are crafted from pedFLX filament made of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), a material certified for medical devices. This advanced material offers excellent flexibility, durability, and breathability, ensuring optimal air circulation within your shoes.

The top cover is made from EVA, providing added comfort, while the shell comes with a 2-year warranty.

Can I wear my orthotics insoles in any shoe?

Custom orthotics insoles are designed to fit most everyday shoes, including athletic shoes, dress shoes, and casual footwear. However, very specific shoe types like high heels or extremely minimalist shoes may not accommodate them. At UFIT, we can design insoles to fit any shoe, including ski boots, cycling shoes etc. During your consultation, we can advise on footwear compatibility.

Do I need to buy bigger shoes to use my orthotics?

In most cases, you do not need to buy bigger shoes. Custom orthotics are designed to be thin and streamlined to fit comfortably into your existing footwear. If you typically have very tight-fitting shoes, our podiatrists can discuss options during your fitting.

Do I have to remove original insoles when using my orthotics? Yes, it is generally recommended to remove the original insoles from your shoes before inserting your custom orthotics. This ensures the orthotics sit correctly within the shoe, providing the intended support and alignment without overcrowding the footwear.
How frequently should my orthotic insoles be changed?

The lifespan of custom orthotics varies depending on the materials, your activity level, and how well you care for them. On average, custom orthotics last between 1 to 5 years. Regular check-ups with your podiatrist in Singapore can help determine if your orthotics are still providing optimal support or if they need to be replaced or adjusted. At UFIT, we offer a 2 year warranty on shell breakage with every pair of insoles.

Are custom orthotics covered by insurance in Singapore?

Coverage for custom orthotics by insurance in Singapore varies significantly based on your individual health insurance policy.

UFIT Podiatry does not currently offer direct billing services. However, we are recognised by all major insurance providers. Our services operate on a self-pay basis, and patients are required to settle payments directly at the time of service.

For insurance claims, we provide all necessary documentation, and patients can seek reimbursement from their insurance providers according to their policy terms. Feel free to contact us for any additional information or assistance in this process.
