What Are Custom Foot Orthotics in Singapore?

Custom orthotic insoles are prescription-grade shoe inserts individually designed to support your unique foot structure and movement. Unlike off-the-shelf insoles, which offer generic cushioning, custom orthotics are prescribed following a full biomechanical assessment of how you walk and move.
Poor foot alignment does not only affect your feet. Over time, it can place added strain on the knees, hips, and lower back. Custom orthotics work to address these underlying mechanics, with the goal of reducing pain, improving how you move, and supporting your long-term wellbeing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Orthotics Insoles

When do I need orthotic insoles?

You might need orthotic insoles if you are experiencing persistent foot, ankle, knee, hip, or lower back pain that could be related to foot mechanics. They are also beneficial for managing specific conditions like flat feet or high arches, bunions, and plantar fasciitis in Singapore.

How long does it take to get custom orthotics made?

Thanks to our in-house 3D printing facility in Singapore, UFIT Podiatry can provide custom orthotics within two to five working days after your initial assessment and consultation. This ensures you receive your orthotics with minimal waiting time.

Can custom orthotics be made for sports or running?

Yes. Our podiatrists have backgrounds in sports and musculoskeletal podiatry, and our gait analysis captures dynamic data from how you actually move under load. This allows us to design orthotics that may support performance, help manage overuse-related strain, and manage conditions commonly associated with running and sport.

Do I need a prescription or referral for custom orthotics?

In Singapore, a prescription or referral is generally not required to obtain custom orthotics. You can book an appointment directly for an assessment. However, if you have a referral from another healthcare professional, please bring it along.

Can orthotics help with foot pain?

Yes, custom orthotics can help relieve many types of foot pain. They work by correcting biomechanical imbalances, providing cushioning, and redistributing pressure, which reduces stress on painful areas like the heel, arch, or ball of the foot.

What materials are custom insoles made from?

Our insoles are crafted from pedFLX filament made of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), a material certified for medical devices. This advanced material offers excellent flexibility, durability, and breathability, ensuring optimal air circulation within your shoes.

The top cover is made from EVA, providing added comfort, while the shell comes with a 2-year warranty.

Can I wear my orthotic insoles in any shoe?

Custom orthotics insoles are designed to fit most everyday shoes, including athletic shoes, dress shoes, and casual footwear.

However, very specific shoe types like high heels or extremely minimalist shoes may not accommodate them. At UFIT, we can design insoles to fit any shoe, including ski boots, cycling shoes etc. During your consultation, we can advise on footwear compatibility.

Do I need to buy bigger shoes to use my orthotics?

In most cases, you do not need to buy bigger shoes. Custom orthotics are designed to be thin and streamlined to fit comfortably into your existing footwear. If you typically have very tight-fitting shoes, our podiatrists can discuss options during your fitting.

Do I have to remove the original insoles when using my orthotics?

Yes, it is generally recommended to remove the original insoles from your shoes before inserting your custom orthotics. This ensures the orthotics sit correctly within the shoe, providing the intended support and alignment without overcrowding the footwear.

How frequently should my orthotic insoles be changed?

Custom orthotics typically last between one and five years, depending on your activity level and how well they are maintained. Regular check-ins with your podiatrist can help monitor wear and determine when a replacement or adjustment may be needed. At UFIT, we offer a 2-year warranty on shell breakage with every pair of insoles.

Are custom orthotics covered by insurance in Singapore?

Coverage varies depending on your individual health insurance policy. UFIT Podiatry does not currently offer direct billing, but we are recognised by all major insurance providers. We operate on a self-pay basis and provide the necessary documentation to support your reimbursement claim. Contact us for further details.
