The effect of undulating hormones during the menstrual cycle can affect women both physically and mentally. Every woman has their own unique experience, however tailoring your nutrition to the different phases of your cycle can help improve symptoms such as cravings, bloating, mood changes and fatigue.
Perimenopause and beyond
During perimenopause, the time leading up to when a woman stops releasing eggs, a woman’s hormone levels change. Accompanied by these hormone changes can be some uncomfortable symptoms, such as hot flashes, insomnia, and weight gain, as well as an increase in risk for some diseases, and potentially reduced muscle mass and bone density. A diet tailored to this period in your life can be used to help ease some of these symptoms, minimise certain disease risks, and reduce changes to your body’s composition.
Preconception, pregnancy, lactation and after
The type and amount of food you eat, supplementation you take, and body weight before, during, and after pregnancy can all have an impact on your health and that of your baby. While adopting a healthy lifestyle at any stage of pregnancy is beneficial, research suggests that pre-conception (at least 3 months prior to conception) is a crucial period and can impact a child's well-being at birth and for the rest of their life. So seeking help before that positive pregnancy test result is a good idea! Using our in-depth knowledge as Nutritionists we will provide you with the tools, skills and confidence to eat optimally for both you and your baby.
