Cardiorespiratory Fitness Test

This is an incremental exercise test completed on a bike or treadmill, where your oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide production are measured. The test begins at a low intensity and periodically increases in intensity. This gives us insight into your metabolic health and how your body utilises oxygen at different exercise intensities, so we can achieve your goals in the most efficient and safest way possible.

Resting Metabolic Rate

The RMR is the number of calories your body utilises at rest per day. It makes up around 60-75% of your daily energy expenditure. This test is performed using a gas analysis system which measures the amount ofoxygen taken in and carbon dioxide produced. Breath analysis is the most accurate/accessible method of determining how many calories you require at rest.

Blood lipid profile

Lipids are a group of fats and fat-like substances that are essential for certain cellular functions and sources of energy.  A blood lipid profile will measure the level of specific lipids in the blood. Two important lipids are cholesterol and triglycerides (TG). A capillary blood sample is taken from the finger and examined to show LDL/HDL cholesterol levels and Total Cholesterol:HDL ratio. This test has been suggested to be the best predictor of cardiovascular disease risk.

Lung Function Test UFIT Club Street

Lung function test

To perform the test the individual takes one maximal inspiration of air and then maximally expires through a measurement device. Lung spirometry testing is recommended for any smoker over the age of 45 years as well as anyone presenting with shortness of breath, chronic wheezing, coughing or mucus production. It is a simple non-invasive test that can be performed easily. Results from this test can help identify respiratory obstructive abnormalities sometimes before signs and symptoms of disease are present.

Fasting Blood Glucose Test

This provides a snapshot of your blood glucose levels and gives us an indirect measurement of how your insulin is functioning. So, if the fasted blood glucose value is above the norm, this can indicate the insulin is not functioning how it should, which is a characteristic of type 2 diabetes. The glycated Haemoglobin Test provides an indication of average blood glucose levels over the last 2-3 months and a better indicator of metabolic health.
