For years, I have trained by myself not wanting to train with anyone else for fear that my training sessions wouldn’t be as productive. But I was proved very wrong recently, when after much persistence, I finally agreed to join a friend (also fellow coach at UFIT) for a workout.
Brandon Au is a familiar face at UFIT one-north gym, clocking in a couple of training sessions a week with his colleague Satyadev. From his jovial laughters and easy confidence as he attempts the exercises under the watchful eyes of Personal Trainer Daniel Gregson, you won't be able to tell that just barely a year ago, Brandon can barely do most of the exercises that he's doing today. Brandon...
You are likely to be sitting at your desk right now while reading this. If that’s the case, then you may very well be aware, or have personally experienced some of the negative effects associated with sitting for long periods in the day. Due to the nature of our work, sitting may a necessary evil – the “desk-bound problem” has been labeled by the media as the “new smoking”. A bit dramatic...
Iron is the essential element for energy production and optimal athletic performance. Did you know that almost half of women in Singapore could be iron-deficient but are unware of it? UFIT’s Head of Nutrition Wendy Riddell was recently surprised to find out she was one of them in an Iron Panel Test.
Bootcamp training is an intense mix of strength and cardio exercises designed to work your entire body within one hour. It requires little or no special equipment to get a heart-thumping workout. It is a great community workout that builds camaraderie while challenging your physical and mental limits. The best part is that you get to exercise outdoors in the fresh air amongst nature, where...

Andrew Robertson took on a 100 day weight-loss challenge on the advice of his UFIT Amoy St trainer Lawrence Cartwright. Over that time Robbo had to cut alcohol for 100 days, send Lawrence photos of every meal he ate, and make huge changes to his diet. Lawrence also suggested he go public on Facebook over those 100 days for extra motivation.
Previous Clean & Lean Challenge participants Scott and Sheri Green decided to treat their bodies after Christmas and kick off the new year with the some Clean & Leaning. One fool-proof way to keep yourself engaged with your workout is to pair up with someone! Just imagine…it’s 5.30am, it’s dark outside and there’s a light rain pattering against the window. All you want to do is stay lying in your comfortable bed, roll over and go back to sleep. But you’ve promised your friend you’ll join them at that new bootcamp this morning. You can’t let them down, can you?...
In August 2015, someone made a comment to me which has changed my outlook on training ever since. Up until that point, fitness to me was something I did for fun but with the goals purely being to lose fat, get leaner and just be generally all round fit but with no real performance goals. As a result of this comment, I decided to investigate powerlifting.
Our amazing dynamic duo Mike Thornton and Trine Kaehler took on the Clean & Lean Challenge as a couple to give each other the motivation to stick to the program and avoid any temptations. Hear more about their journey of the four weeks right here.
About me: Trampoline Performance Coach and retired Army Captain. Former National Level trampoline competitor in the UK and Billy all sports, 31 years young.
Hear it first hand from Patrick who was our Clean & Lean Challenge runner up in January about how he found his experience over the four weeks.
Why did I not do this sooner?!
There are a lot of fitness/weight loss/exercise challenges out there at the moment. From one week crash diets to extreme exercise regimes, the market is flooded. One glance at Facebook and you're inundated by ads for them. Thing is, most of them are quick fixes. You end up rebounding quickly after, and often, you have very little support.
We all want to eat tasty food and feel satisfied and happy. We want to be healthy, feel energetic, have a lean good looking body, be free of cravings and forget about counting calories. Most of all, we would like to avoid the guilt and the self-hatred feelings over the food consume. Feelings that prevent us from fully enjoying our meal can often lead us to making the wrong food choices.
We're SO proud to announce that our SHEFIT classes have been awarded the 'Best Outdoor Bootcamps in Singapore’, courtesy of the SHAPE Sports Awards 2017.
Let's face it, it’s a topic that we have all struggled with over the years which is not really surprising given the number of conflicting ideas available in the busy fitness market we work and play in today!
