Clean & Lean with the Greens

After last Christmas, Scott and Sheri Green decided to treat their bodies and kick off the new year with the some Clean & Leaning. It was totally worth it - Scott lost nearly 5% body fat and 7kg in the four weeks, and Sheri lost nearly 6% body fat and almost 4kg. They now share with us, after doing the UFIT Clean & Lean Challenge four times - how they have felt, how it fit into their lifestyle, and why they would do it again:

1. How often have you done UFIT Clean & Lean and how were the results?

I have done UFIT Clean & Lean four times. The first time I did it by myself and twice I did it with Scott. We both got great results each time. I think Scott saw the results and what a benefit it was for me after the first time so he wanted to know what it would do for him. He eats less sugar than me and was very surprised by what he learnt.

2. Why do it again after learning the principles the first time?

I loved the way I felt and what I learned the first time so I did it again and learnt even more. The truth is it's hard for me to take sugar out completely forever. I'm human and the bad habits creep back in, a holiday comes around or you have a party to go to, and sugar is addictive after all.

But I like to reset, and to learn more. Each time I have done it I have taken something else from it and been educated more. Sometimes you think you are making a healthy choice purely by the way a product is advertised, I think this was the biggest thing I learnt. I thought I was being quite healthy but when you really strip it back you are surprised.

3. How has it been doing it with your husband - and balancing with a social life and three little kids?

You get so much support from Wendy, Noa and everyone else through the Facebook page but having Scott do it with me really helped. We saw the changes in each other and enjoyed exercising together. It's had only has a positive effect on our family, having three kids can be a challenge at dinner time, that's never going to change but if I can get them to try a new thing and its healthy and they like it then that's fab. My oldest daughter now prefers Shepherd's pie with cauliflower mash instead of potato. My son enjoys coming to Bootcamp with me. We have had lots of little changes from doing Clean & Lean. I learnt if you plan your meals it makes it easier and you make better choices.

4. What pushed you through when it all felt a bit challenging?

The main thing that pushed me through the four weeks was what I learnt each week. The community also pushes you through, it makes you accountable. Wendy and Noa help you through each week, they have done it / are doing it themselves and have all the answers you need to get through it.

5. Apart from looking great, how did your body feel during and after the Challenge?

For me, I saw so many changes. At the beginning I'm not gonna lie, it's hard to see what sugar does to you, but as the time goes on and you see the benefits, actually very quickly you see changes. Other people see changes too. My energy levels improved, my skin was nice, my moods were more stable and then there are the changes you see in your clothes, they fit better, even get too big. These are just a few things but there are so many more.

6. Has it been manageable to continue with it after the Challenge?

UFIT Clean & Lean has helped me live a much healthier lifestyle. I have also found a love of excercise I didn't know I had.  I have taken the things I learned going forward to make better choices.

7. Would you do it again and why?

I will do UFIT Clean & Lean again I'm sure. The easy part for me is the four weeks, It's the part after I find harder. That's my challenge and always will be, but now at least I have the knowledge to be able to make the right choices.

8. Scott - do you have anything to add?

No - Sheri's said it all! But I would add just one thing - I don't feel right when I'm not on Clean & Lean.

When we travel or have overseas visitors we can fall off the bandwagon with healthy eating. But by being realistic and planning we can have fun - and stay relatively healthy. UFIT Head of Nutrition Wendy Riddell tells us how with five easy tips...

1. Plan to keep your weight stable

Don't try to lose weight over the holidays, or else you are setting yourself up for failure. If you can be consistent and maintain where you are at now, you're doing great.

2. Be 70% good

Try to eat well for 70% of the time, and for the remaining 30% have fun as you are on holidays after all.

3. Take healthy snacks with you

Take some healthy snacks with you wherever you go to keep you away from the sugary processed ones you can only buy when you're out and about.

4. Keep hydrated

Take a water bottle with you when you go out and try to drink at least 3 litres a day. That will keep you feeling full and curb your appetite when you buy something naughty in desperate hunger.

5. Be kind to yourself

Don't feel guilty if you fall off the wagon. We're only human. And if we stress too much about eating the wrong food we'll be more likely to eat more of it.

Since the very first moment Puja joined UFIT Bootcamps she has been an absolute trooper. Getting up for the early 6am classes isn't always easy, but she's always given 100% - keep it up Puja!

"I had been looking for bootcamp classes for a while but couldn't find anything that fitted my work schedule. That was until I found UFIT Bootcamp East Coast sessions in the morning that fit in. I know 6am sounds early but it really is perfect. 

My goals were to lose weight... isn't that everyone's goal? My experience with UFIT Bootcamps is the community and your achievements within - getting up early was really difficult initially, but now I absolutely love it. My first few sessions were a little intimidating, but everyone is really friendly and motivating and that soon went away."

"One year ago my goal was to try one hour of outdoors activity as I was still struggling with Singapore heat. A super-fit-friend insisted on joining SHEFIT, so I gave in and joined. We cycled to the session, realised I couldn't do 5 burpees in a row and got completely exhausted by the end.

However, I kept coming back. There's something so special about the sessions, they’re dynamic, there’s an amazing community vibe, the coaches are so motivating that the love-hate relationship scale tips to love. So I continued with the sessions, became stronger - now I can do like 10 burpees. I’ve met some awesome people and have learnt a lot! Clean&Lean changed my perspective on nutrition, Bootcamps and MetCons taught me how to enhance my fitness level and RUNFIT got me faster. 

Overall, it has been an empowering experience and now an integral part of my everyday life. I feel really grateful for having found this community and I really thank now the friend who brought me."

"We are very happy to be a part of UFIT. It has been such a great experience. 

My friend Rob from work told me I should check out the UFIT Bootcamp on Tanjong Beach. After one session I was hooked. I then dragged my wife out of bed on a Sunday to join the fun. From then on it has become an addiction! One session turned into 5 times a week participating in everything offered on Sentosa from Bex and Lawrence. When that was not enough to satisfy our addiction we started Personal Training with Aaron, Lawrence and Bex. My best days are when I get a bootcamp done in the morning and a Personal Training session in the evening. 

Our goal was pretty simple - get fit and improve overall heath. The results have been amazing. With 24 hour support from Lawrence and Aaron I lost 8 kilos in 18 days. Honey completed the Clean and Lean Challenge in May which totally changed our cooking habits. Honey also suffered from back issues which Bex has been able to solve with strength training during Personal Training.

"I started Bootcamps nearly a year ago, not long after I moved to Singapore. I spoke to Wendy about it and it sounded exactly what I was looking for. A way to get fit, meet new friendly people and loose the baby weight I was still carrying. I liked the idea of working out outside too. Something I could never do in Jakarta.

Not many people get to work out in such a beautiful setting with amazing, experienced and very dedicated trainers.
