Clean & Lean Challenge winner Christian Dally - a truly-eye opening and inspiring month

Christian's journey on UFIT's Clean and Lean Challenge left us in awe of his commitment to the programme and the outstanding results he achieved! We're so proud of you Christian and we look forward to seeing you back this year!

Christian began the programme with 27.97% a body fat and weighed 98.4kg. At the end of the four weeks his body fat fell to 18.83 % and weight to 90kg. When you dedicate your time, brain and energy to your goals and anything is possible, Christian is one of our shining examples.

We received this truly humble message from Christian about his experience of the Clean and Lean Challenge, which he describes as 'a truly-eye opening and inspiring month.'

'Thank-you so much, I am absolutely over the moon! I did stick to the plan and I did quite a lot of exercise - thanks Bex, Gilo and Lawrence for the awesome support at bootcamp - but I am still stunned, shocked and amazed by the huge positive impact on me that this programme has had. Almost immediately after quitting sugar and carbs, I began to feel more balanced, energised and focussed; some talked of headaches and a lack of energy in the first few weeks, I had none of that, just a feeling of control and increasing well-being that grew day by day.

Winning is nice of course, and I cant wait to kick off the personal training sessions, but in all honesty I already felt I'd won. We all have, we are all winners, and do you know how we succeeded, because of each other, the support, ideas and importantly the shared humour that saw us all through!

WendyNoa Harari and the UFIT team, you guys are fabulous, clearly extremely knowledgable but also so lovely, approachable and personable, we never felt embarrassed to ask our silly questions and that was super helpful. The 'safe' environment you created for us surely helped us all to stay on track & achieve our own personal goals.

It would be easy to feel a bit of a sense of loss now we've 'finished' the programme...but I don't, its not really a programme is it, more a 'reprogramming' exercise...I will carry this through for the rest of my life. I'll still fall off the wagon on a Saturday night and maybe sneak a square of Dairy Milk here and there, but I now really understand what my body needs to be strong and healthy. I won't be going back to 'Old Me,' that's for sure.

Thanks Wendy, Noa and the rest of my fellow "C&L12ers" for a truly-eye opening and inspiring month. James - you should be proud of these guys. Congratulations to the other winners and everyone for getting stuck in!'

Christian

P.S. In the spirt of the Oscars, also big thanks to my gorgeous wife for getting involved and supporting me!

We took five minutes with Christian to ask him more about his Clean and Lean Challenge experience!

1.    What made you sign up for Clean & Lean?
a.    I was growing more and more unsatisfied with my body shape and fitness levels...moving to Singapore with the outdoors, beach/pool lifestyle really brought this into focus.  Seeing others achieving such fast, deep and long-lasting success with CL was an opportunity I couldn’t ignore.  Notwithstanding this, committing to what for me was to be a radical change programme, was frankly scary – I am so glad I did!

2.    How was your first week?
a.    Some struggled and via the FB group we supported each other. In all honestly, I didn’t struggle, the nutrition plan suited me and throwing myself into the bootcamps kept me focused and motivated. I began to feel the positive results almost immediately.

3.    Did you sign up with a friend or by yourself?
a.    With my wife

4.    How have you felt each week?
a.    Increasingly good!  And it’s continued after the end of the 4 week period.

5.    Did it get easier?
a.    It got easier as we began to understand the impact of the nutrition changes and got used to eating differently – or rather just being better prepared to eat consistently differently.  Two things changed, firstly eating better made me feel great, more energetic, balanced and focused; secondly as time went by I began to experiment more with food and ingredients – by the middle weeks we were eating not only well, but tasty too!

6.    Congratulations, you made it to the end of the four weeks how do you feel now?
a.    Like a different, better, more energetic, focussed and younger, version of my fat, old, tired self.

7.    What was the biggest surprise after the four weeks?
a.    That I have stuck to it since and continue to lose weight/fat and feel increasingly fit.

8.    What kept you motivated?
a.    The results. Simple as that, all I have to do is look in the mirror or at an old pair of trousers – now 6 inches too big!

9.    Would you recommend to a friend?
a.    1000%

Meet Kamlesh, our September Clean & Lean runner up!

Kamlesh has been a part of our UFIT Bootcamps and community, but was looking to take his goals to the next level by joining the Clean & Lean programme. We’re so happy for your achievements Kamlesh!

Throughout the course of the four weeks Kamlesh’s hard work paid off and he lost a staggering 6kg and 6.94% Body Fat. Hear more about Kamlesh’s journey on the programme and how he achieved these awesome results:

“Wow! Runner-up for Clean and Lean 11. I’m really pleased with myself for that. Almost makes me want to go on a binge and come back and try winning it next time. JUST KIDDING!

I’m actually quite upset about this…. I realise that I now abstain from alcohol and sugar, and fried noodles disgust me. I’ve lost about 3 inches off my waist which means I need to spend time buying new pants. My business suits look like baggy pyjamas, and people I’ve met after a few years don’t recognise me at first glance. Thanks to Wendy Riddell and Noa Harari!

Now that’s out my system… I started my fitness journey almost 2 years ago. It’s been a challenging road, but while I’ve made subtle changes to my diet over time, I’ve never benefited or learnt so much as I did during the 4 week programme. To me, it was all about weight and BMI. I never realised how much sugar I was ingesting without actually seeing the sugar, and how much unnecessary food I was consuming.

I think that (even though I recovered more than my investment :-) ) this programme was total value for money. I effectively paid $30 per kg lost, and I got 4 bootcamps, nutrition seminars, workouts, and most importantly, the knowledge and awareness of my body. That’s more value than any slimming centre or crash diet programme can offer. I feel a lot lighter, I lift more, run faster, and a lot of my lower back problems have sorted themselves out. I’ve met some really wonderful people on the way, and wanted to give a special shout out to Jaike Carter who trained me real hard at UFIT - Getting You Fit!! for the past year.

I’m looking forward to more mind-blowing stuff next year, and I do hope to come back for one more round of C&L, not now, but really soon. I will certainly recommend this to all my peeps!”

Meet Justine, our September Clean & Lean runner up!

Justine was our close runner up in our recent Clean & Lean Challenge, read more about her journey here...

Our Clean & Lean programme has seen some inspirational results over the last 12 months and Justine is certainly one of them. Justine dedicated her time and motivation to the programme – the results are a HUGE achievement.

Of the course of the four weeks Justine’s hard work paid off and she lost a staggering 5.6kg and 7.49% Body Fat. Justine has kindly taken the time to share her experience of the programme to bring to life what it’s like. Hear it from Justine:

1.    What made you sign up for Clean & Lean?

I have had two children over the past 4 years and been incredibly busy.  I had kind of let health and fitness take a back seat so was looking for a kick starter as I knew I was drastically unfit.

2.    How was your first week?

Awesome I got to eat bacon and eggs every morning what’s not to love about that!  First week was actually fine the novelty was there it was new and exciting

3.    Did you sign up with a friend or by yourself?

I did it by myself

4.    How have you felt each week?

Honestly as I moved to the third and fourth week I really struggled with energy issues – I was quite strict and didn’t add any carbs in the 4th week which meant the bootcamps and running were really hard going.

5.    Did it get easier?

Honestly no it got harder but I stuck at it!

6.    Congratulations, you made it to the end of the four weeks how do you feel now?

I felt amazing and once I added in a few more carbs my energy returned and I realized how far I had come – I lost a shed load of weight and my sleep pattern was much better plus I was a lot fitter

7.    What was the biggest surprise after the four weeks?

I think the impact food has on how you feel. Just taking out some of the rubbish made me feel a lot more in tune with what works for me. I was able to work out that possibly dairy doesn’t agree with me and if I want to lose weights carbs are the key.

8.    What kept you motivated?

I really wanted to win the prize – I nearly got there!

9.    Would you recommend to a friend?

Absolutely, it’s not the most fun thing in the world but if you need a kick starter to something that I think is actually quite life changing and a manageable way to lose weight and maintain that weight loss this is it.

A big thanks to our partners who supported us throughout the programme to keep our community energised, inspired and fuelled for their weeks ahead.

Meet Antonio, our September Clean & Lean WINNER!

Antonio is our superstar. He has been such an inspiration from day one and hasn’t looked back since.

Given that Antonio unfortunately had an injury at the beginning of the programme he proved his commitment and determination to not let it get in the way. We couldn’t be prouder of your awesome achievements Antonio.

Throughout the course of the four weeks Antonio showed staggering results in just four weeks and he lost an amazing 9kg and 7.85% Body Fat. Hear more about Antonio’s journey and how he stuck at the programme.

“When I signed up for UFIT’s Clean & Lean, I wasn’t in the market for a weight-loss programme.

I had first leaned about it from Nathan, who mentioned after a UFIT Body Weight training session that one of the people that he trained had managed to change his body completely after only four weeks.

At the time the programme interested me but I was skeptic at first, as I have never been fond of the ‘biggest loser’ types of competition. I have a strong belief that people should be content with their bodies and that, sometimes, the obsession with physical appearance is too highly prioritised in our cultural agendas.

I had, however, been feeling sick for the past couple of years. I first attributed the feeling to the Asian diet and to the fact that I had “no time” to cook and was constantly eating in the street. For the longest time, I thought that eating yogurt and an apple in the mornings, and a salad here and there, and going to a boot camp session or running a couple of times a week would help me feel better and when it didn’t, I just assumed that feeling sick was part of my new normal.

Last summer I went to Europe to visit friends and I discovered that many of them were making efforts to make positive changes in their lifestyle. When I came back, I knew that although I wasn’t in the market for a weight-loss programme, I was in the market for a change.

It was not until I spoke with Giles at one of his first training sessions with UFIT that I learned that the program, rather than being designed for you to lose weight, was designed for you to introduce your body to healthier options and to learn to listen to what your body wants or needs.

I decided to give C&L a try. It helped a lot to know that real nutritionists had designed the programme and that it was being organised by UFIT, an organization I had come to trust.

When you go and look at the profiles of the instructors on UFIT’s webpage, they are not just ‘fit’ people conducting bootcamp sessions, they also have professional certifications or studies in their field of expertise. Quite frankly, this made me trust them to sign up and I would probably have not done so otherwise.

The first week of the C&L was probably the hardest not only for me but also it seemed for everyone in the challenge. Week 1 is the week where you quit sugar cold turkey and you concentrate your efforts in cleansing your body. I remember people complaining on Facebook that week about feeling hungry and general tiredness. Myself, I had massive headaches for the first couple of days but luckily they disappeared before the end of the week.

I re-read those Facebook conversations now and laugh when I remember how we were all hurting then J!!!

To me, after the first week, it became quite easy, mostly because your body gets used to it pretty fast and because I started noticing some amazing changes right away. I was no longer bloated all the time and the sickness started to fade away.

The weekly meetings (with new additional ingredients revealed every week!) and the Facebook support group were the two things that kept me motivated the most. The people on Facebook were great, sharing recipes, providers, or stories. They really helped me to get through my moments of doubt. Having the support of my girlfriend, with whom I live, also helped. Even though she was not in the C&L, she would eat the same things that I ate in order to provide me with moral support. I think it’s fair to say that we changed our lifestyle together.

Sadly, I hurt my knee on the first day of the challenge. The timing was maddening! I was not able to exercise and therefore thought that my chances of successfully completing the challenge were going to be severely impaired by my injury. I was shocked when I found out that I had won. It made me realise the power that food has in fueling and transforming your system.

This is something that may be obvious to a lot of people, but it was not that obvious to me. Before Clean & Lean, I always thought that if I was not feeling better it was because I was not exercising enough. However, I know now that what I eat can have a deep impact on my mood and my energy levels.

I came out of the C&L with an energy that I have not felt in years and for that I am extremely grateful that I decided to go with it.

The program was an exercise in discipline and it required me to confront a lot of things I thought I knew about eating well. Everyday life has a way of getting in your way. You think you have no time to eat breakfast or to cook, or that having a sugary drink during lunch will actually help you gain energy for the afternoon.

Changing your lifestyle is surprisingly easy to do if you are prepared and you have the proper guidance. UFIT Clean & Lean makes it easy for you in that sense because it connects you not only with providers but also with other people that are looking for similar goals as yours.

Now the challenge will be to maintain this lifestyle after the programme. I am confident that I will, as I learned a lot about the foods that hurt me and about what my body really needs. Now your goal is to keep clean & lean during the week and only drink or eat out once during the weekend. I would never say no to good pizza or beer – as long as it’s only on occasion!

I would absolutely recommend this programme to anyone who is in the market for a change but who does not have not a single clue of when or how to do it.”

A big thanks to our partners who supported us throughout the programme to keep our community energised, inspired and fuelled for their weeks ahead.
